With the
score tied at 5 apiece after 2 innings, Awnings Galore clawed ahead against a
feisty NJ Governmental Services defense.
Leading 10-6 after 5 innings, The Shadesters deposited 5 runs in
the 6th frame to increase their lead 15-6. The Servicemen scored 4 more in
their last two frames to keep it close but not enough to take the lead.
For Awnings, reliable Danny Mendoza went 4-4 with a double, 3 hits each by
Frank Green (triple) and Paul Newton (double) assisted in the
"W". Adding 2 hits each for
their winning efforts were Rich Polonitza, Tom Pasko (double), Mike Carnevale
and Bobby Lorincz. At the plate for NJGS, Joe Attanasi, Doc Henley
Black, Steve Landau and Jose Cortes had 3 hits each. Anardo
Calderon, Bill Moore, Tomas Cruz and James Massarelli had 2 hits each. |
Diversified Lighting 21, Kenilworth VFW 13 |
VFW tied the game at 9 a piece in top of 4th only to see
Diversified pull away with two 6 run innings to win 21-13. Diversified Lighting came out with a balanced 28 hit
offensive attack. Leading the way was Anthony Santorelli (double) and Felix
Felez (2 doubles) with 4 hits each. Rob Hawk (double), Scott Garland (HR) and
Mike Backus (triple) bolstered the attack with 3 hits each. For VFW, Bob D'Meo (triple) went 4 for 4 while John Rachko
and John St James chipped in with 3 hits each. Don Montefusco (4 runs scored) may have
tied a VFW record with 3 bases on balls and going 1 for 1 at the plate. |

14, Linwood II 10 |
At this
hard-fought battle at Brookside Park in Scotch Plains, Swan Hotel prevailed
over Linwood II by a score of 14-10. The Swan star at the plate was the
imposing James Knobby Nardello who had a single followed by 3 intentional
walks. Brian Latham, Doug Fischer, and Bernie Maguire each went 3 for 4
on the night. John Garced, Marty Bernstein and Joe Difabio, who bombed
a triple off the center field fence, each had two hits in the victory. |

13, DeBellis Associates 7 |
DeBellis Associates held the lead 4-2 through the first 3
innings and kept it close throughout the game, but a 6 run output in the 4th
inning by Awnings Galore and good pitching by Tommy Pasko backed up by good
defense, held the Investigators scoreless in the final 3 frames to give the
Shadesters the victory 13-7. |
Awnings was led with 2 hits apiece by Billy Hillyer (long
triple), Paul Newton, Danny Mendoza, Dave Kirsch, Tommy Pasko , Rich
Polonitza (2B) and Gary Cuttler. |

Governmental Services 24, Yogi's Boys 9 |
NJ
Governmental Services beat Yogi's Boys 24 -9. The game was won by solid
defense. The infield turned 3 double plays including one 3rd to home play by
Doc Henley Black to Gary Epstein.
For NJGS at the plate Keith McDede and Anthony Abbaleo had 4 hits
each. Steve Falco, Anardo Calderon, Joe Attanasi and Doc Henley
Black contributed 3 hits each. Bill Moore, James Massarelli, Steve Landau and
winning pitcher Neil Koch rounded out the attack with 2 hits. Tomas
Cruz's triple in the bottom of the 6th knocked in two runs to seal the
victory. |

Diversified Lighting 7 |
Swan Hotel defeated A Division rival Diversified Lighting 22-7
at Linden Memorial Field. Swan pitcher Doug Fischer turned out the lights on
Diversified in 4 of 6 innings played. On offense, the Swannies were led
by Bernie Maguire (3 hits, 3 RBI's), John Garced (3 hits, 5 RBI's), Doug
Fischer (3 hits, 3 RBI's), and Marty Bernstein (3 hits, 2 RBI's. Tom
Baldowski hit a majestic 3-run home run deep into the Linden twilight. Bernstein closed out the game with a
stellar play at shortstop. |

Contact Lens scored early and often to defeat Kenilworth VFW
22-7. Leading the hitting for CLV was Carlos Gonzalez
3-3 with a triple and 3RBI’s, Anthony Miccio 3-3 and an RBI, Charlie
Wischusen 4-4, Rich Fleissner 3-3, Joe Mitarotonda 3-3, Marty Joyce 3-4 with
a double and a home run and 2 RBI’s, Gerard McDermott 2-3 with 2 RBI’s, and
Brian McDermott 2-3 with 4 RBI’s. Contributing
to VFW were John Rachko, Carey Durrett, Keith Durrett, and Frank Verducci
with 2 hits apiece. |
