Legion 12 |
A great pitching performance from Super Dave Rothenberg, was
supported by Anthony Miccio 4 for 5 with huge triple and ageless wonder
George Merlo with a bases loaded triple. Everyone contributed in a total team
win for CLV. For The Legion, Bill Dugan and Bill Buteau with home runs, Bruce
Claytor, Gene Antonucci and Al Genova paced the offense. |
Top Line
Appliance 24, Waxtel Construction 15 |
In a high scoring game, Ron Kulik led the Top Liners with 4
hits. Also chipping in for Top Line were Bob D’Meo, Lou Collins and Whitey
McCormack with 3 hits apiece. For Waxtel, Jose Santana continued his hot
streak with 4 hits, Steve Wizz and Keith McDede had 3 hits each, while George
Balint, Ty Sercey and Mike Ramirez all had 2 hit games. |
AJ Jersey 20,
Riverside Inn 8 |
Leading the AJ attack were Dave Ciarrocca with 4 hits and 5 RBIs
while Mark Marotta hit for the cycle with 3 RBIs. Anthony Abbaleo, James Massarelli and Joe
Hrubash each had 3 hits for Riverside. |
Deegan Roofing
13, Liberty Lighting Group 8 |
Tom Baldowski's circus catch in left field helped Deegan hold
off a last inning surge by LLG in this closely played game. Don Fischer
was 3 for 3 on the night for the Roofers. Don Miller, Dennis Vuono, Pat
Nigro, Rick Regenthal and Jim Jimenez sparked the Liberty offense. |
Linwood Inn
12, Cranford VFW 9 |
Linwood, after plating 5 runs in the 3rd frame, used solid defense and excellent pitching from Tom
Siano to slow down the VFW bats. For the Tap House, Stu Lukowiak (2BH, 3BH)
and John Esposito (4 RBIs) each went 3 for 3, while Mike DiRienzo, Tony
Camporeale and Mac Kowaleski contributed a pair of hits each. For The VFW,
Frank Verducci (3 RBIs) and Bob
Ghiretti (2 RBIs) were also 3 for 3, while Vic Trindade, Jim Capizzi and Mark
McGlynn all smacked 2 hits each. |

20, Linda’s Driftwood #2 16 |
For Awnings, Bobby Lorincz (3 RBI, BB, 3R), Neil Granstrand (2
RBI, BB)and Frank D'Antico (HR, 3 RBI, BB) had 4 hits each. John Rachko (3BH,
RBI), Steve Androsko (2 RBI, 2 BB), Randy Tarnofsky (2 RBI, 2 BB) and winning
pitcher Tom Colandro (RBI) had 2 hits
apiece for the victors. |

American Legion 19, Waxtel Construction 4 |
Harry Streep, winning pitcher for the Legion, was supported by a
3 hit game from Dennis Valvano, and a Jeff Baier home run. Also chipping in offensively were Jim
McCullough, Bill Daniel and Joe Ciampi. For Waxtel, Jose Cortes (3 RBI), Ty
Sercey, Keith McDede and Ramon Martinez provided the offensive spark. |
AJ Jersey 8,
Top Line Appliance 7 |
In a back and forth game, AJ came from behind to tie 7 to 7,
then pushed across the game winner in the bottom of the 7th with 2 out on
Ken Shea’s winning hit. Greg Hobson had a two out bases loaded single to
drive in two runs. Don Montefusco led Top Line with 3 hits. |
Linwood Inn
13, Riverside Inn 12 |
For the Tap House, Joe Sarica had 3 hits including the walk off
base hit in the bottom of the 7th inning. Also contributing offensively for
Linwood were Rich Johns 3 for 3, Nick Mennona (2 triples), Mac Kowaleski,
Joseph Adase, Joe Menza and Brian Schaefer. Rich Johns made a great play at
defensively at third base. Tom
Wolansky, with 4 hits and 2 RBIs and Rich Conklin with a homerun and 4 RBIs
led the Riverside attack. |
Deegan Roofing
17, Contact Lens & Vision 7 |
Deegan trailed early, but after scoring 9 runs in the 4th inning they
never looked back. John Garced struck the big blow in that inning with
a bases clearing triple to deep left. Marty Marks was 4 for 4 on the
night while Nick Russo and Dave Lavelle each had 3 hits for the Roofers.
Hitting stars for CLV were Joe DeRosa with 3 hits, Harold Zayas with 2 hits
including a triple, and Ed Rodriguez
who also had a pair of hits. |
Awnings Galore
9, Cranford VFW 7 |
Trailing 4-2 in the 6th, Awnings rallied with 7 runs to secure the victory. John
Rachko had a perfect 4 for 4 night (HR, 3 RBIs), Randy Tarnofsky, Tom
Breen and Neil Granstrand contributed 3 hits each, while Bruce Crawford drove
in 2 for the victors. For Cranford , who saw the game end with the tying runs
on the bases, Jim Capizzi went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Juan Moreno drove
in 2 runs with a double and Bob Ghiretti, Pat Ahern and Jerry Gaeta all
contributed 2 hits. |
Contact Lens
& Vision 12, Liberty Lighting Group 7 |
For the Lensmen, Kerry Gelb homered and tripled, Ed Quinn had
two clutch hits including a home run and 5 RBIs, while Joe Lynch played a
stellar third base and also had a perfect 3 for 3 night. LLG’s offense was paced by Tom Ulichny,
Dennis Vuono and Rob Stratton. |
D & K
Associates 16, Riverside Inn 15 |
Joe Hrubash, Rich Polonitza, Tom Wolansky, Jim Massarelli and
Mike Garcia each had 3 hits for Riverside in a game decided on a walk off hit
by Dan D'Arcy. |
Top Line
Appliance 20, Cranford VFW 10 |
Led by Bob D’Meo’s 3 run HR, Top Line broke open a close game in
the late innings. Greg Hartnett added 4 hits for The Top Liners, while Ron
Kulik, Lou Collins, Whitey McCormack, Joe Viso and Miguel Cabrera each
chipped in with 3 hits. For The VFW, Vic Trindade and Dave Drechsel were a
perfect 3 for 3, Nick Pace went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple driving
in 2 runs and Billy Hinkle tripled in 2 runs. |
Deegan Roofing
11, Roselle American Legion 3 |
In a game that was a pitcher’s duel through the first 4 innings,
Deegan turned on the offense to take the contest. Hitting stars for Deegan were John Garced
who was 3 for 3 and Scott Mugele who had a long opposite field over the fence
HR in addition to one other hit. The real story for the Roofers was
their pitching and defense. Pitcher Gary Pence scattered a handful of
hits over seven innings in front of a defense that made no errors. Nick Russo
made two consecutive diving stops at shortstop to quell a Legion rally late
in the game. Bill Buteau and Jim McCullough sparked Roselle’s offense. |
AJ Jersey 26,
Linda’s Driftwood #2 25 |
Overcoming a 21-10 deficit after 5 innings, AJ plated 9 in the
bottom of the 7th to take the contest. David Rizzo, with a bases loaded
double good for 3 RBIs, and Mike Rosenberg, who with 2 outs blasted a shot
over the right center fielder’s head for the walk off victory, struck the big
blows for AJ in the 7th. Chuck Serafin, Dave Ciarrocca, Jeff Hoffman, David Rizzo
and Ken Shea had 3 hits each and combined for 15 RBIs while Howard Greco had
a clutch double over the left fielder's head for 2 RBIs for the victors. |
Linwood Inn
11, Awnings Galore 7 |
In a tight defensive game, where almost all the scoring was done
in the first three innings, Mike DiRienzo (2 triples), Brian Schaefer and
Jack Helfrich banged out 3 hits apiece for the Barmen. Nick Mennona,
Joseph Adase, Joe Menza, Glenn Anderson and pitcher Rich Johns added a pair
of hits each. For Awnings, Randy Tarnofsky had 3 hits
while Brian Granstrand, Bruce Crawford, Tom Breen, Ray Meigs, Bob Lorincz and
Angelo Melillo had 2 hits each. |
Waxtel
Construction 14, Cranford VFW 8 |
Waxtel jumped out to an early 6 run lead after scoring 7 runs in
the second inning, added to the lead when they plated 5 more in the 5th. Ken Zeidner, coming back from a broken
finger, went 4 for 4 with a 3 run home run to stimulate the Waxtel offense.
Jose Cortes, who pitched a great game and knocked in 3, had 4 hits, while
Mike Ramirez and Keith McDede added 3 hits each. Rounding out the Waxtel
attack were Mike Schonberger, Ty Sercey, Ramon Martinez and George
Balint. For The VFW, Frank Verducci
went 3 for 3, Nick Pace had another good offensive game going 3 for 4 while
driving in 3 runs. Dan Ravetier (2 RBIs) and Pete Katula (RBI) each had 2
hits for Cranford. |
Roselle
American Legion 14, Liberty Lighting Group 4 |
Bill Daniel led the Legion’s attack with a perfect 4 hit
night. Also contributing offensively
were Dennis Valvano, Jeff Baier, Gene Antonucci and Ralph Genova in support
of winning pitcher Harry Streep who also chipped in with two hits. Liberty’s offense was paced by Tom Ulichny,
Don Miller and Art Issler. |
Top Line
Appliance 15, Awnings Galore 4 |
Top Line played an excellent defensive game, led by Osiris
Hernandez who made several stellar plays at shortstop. Offensively, Top
Line pounded out 21 hits, with Don Montefusco and Dave Lloyd each with 3 hits
while Rory Caldwell knocked in 3 runs.
Angelo Melillo and Neil Granstrand (2 RBIs) each went 3 for 3 for
Awnings, while Gary Cuttler, Brian Granstrand and John Cunningham had two
hits apiece. |
Riverside Inn
24, Linda’s Driftwood #2 11 |
Dennis Baker’s fine winning pitching performance was supported
offensively by Paul Newton with a home run and two
triples, and several defensive gems by third baseman Dennis Maluchnik. |
Deegan Roofing
29, Linwood Inn 23 |
In this slugfest of unbeatens, Deegan jumped out to an early
12-1 advantage only to have Linwood whittle away and take the lead. The
Roofers battled back with a 9 run 6th to remain unbeaten.
Roofers Ricky McMahon and Kevin Spellman each had four hits on the
night with a home run. Nick Russo also contributed 4 hits for the
Deegan attack. For The Tap House, who
pounded out 30 hits, Brian Schaefer led the offense going 5 for 5. Mike DiRienzo, Joe Sarica and Joe Adase
each added 4 hits, while Tony (Campy) Camporeale, Mac Kowaleski and Glenn
Anderson had 3 hits each. Stu Lukowiak knocked in 6 for Linwood. |
