Division Winners:

A - Higgins

B - Antone’s

C - Freedman.

For the first time all year we hit--12 run avg. per game. Two of our losses were by one run, and the loss to Freedman was a one run game for six innings.

Positive Notes:

1. We hit as a team

2. We survived the intense hit and humidity, but just barely.

3. Sustained no serious injuries or fatalities

4. Had fun!

5. Anthony, AKA Weiner, redeemed himself with great hitting.

6. Frank (Lips) was steady throughout the tournament, with 12 hits. (He swears he had 13) Go fight with the scorer, Frank!

7. B. Bierman and Jerry, and Tony hit over 600. Pete, Doug, B. Kruse, Tag, and Harv hit 500+

8. Running of Kurt and Doug

Negative Notes:

1. Jerry’s hamstring in Game 6 marked our doom, as infield play faltered.

2. Solid, up the middle hitting by other teams.

3. Bad umpire calls on double play ball, third to home. Bad call on Kurt’s slide under tag.

4. Sloppy fielding on Day 2.

5. We ran out of gas! (6 games in 2 days)

I commend you all on your resiliency and ability to make a good showing. We finished third out of eight teams in our division.

Our future depends on our placement in the league next year and our ability to fill some defensive holes, add speed. Everyone has a player to add to our roster. I agree we need to get younger, but at what cost? Our roster is large and without dropping players, we can’t possibly add new members. I am open to suggestions. I am thinking of holding a team meeting as we conclude Fall Ball.

Please mark your calendars for the team party on Saturday evening, November 20.

I am exhausted!

Your friend and manager,

Harv

PS:

Pardon the rudimentary report. Our stat man was on hiatus playing with his team of choice on Saturday. Ray Murphy tells us that Mercer teams never do well in the tournament.
